Each portrait tells its own story. Portrait Commissions are very personal. There are as many reasons behind a commision as there are commissions. My Artist response is required to be unique each time.
In this page you will see a number different portraits that I have done for Clients.
I paint children, adults, deceased loved ones and beloved family pets from photos
GIrl with a pearl earring
This painting at first look is the famous Vemeer.
On closer observation you will notice it is very similar but not the original.
The story behind this painting is as follows;
Locally I met a baker whose face I felt, just needed to be painted! She agreed to my desire to paint her face. Vemeer often painted sceens of everyday life and in so doing capture the dignity of humanity and elevated the humble chores of domestic living. I wanted to imitate his style by working in oil glazes. The end piece was very pleasing. a painting of this beautiful women, a baker, with her timeless beauty.

John
I had the privilege of spending time with John in his final weeks of his life. As a family friend I was asked if I would make a record of John in his dying weeks. The family asked me to work from life, simple sketches in oil paint to capture these precious moments of his life. I visited John on three occasions and only wish I could have spent more time painting this wonderful friend.
